Putin: Lukashenko's visit to Moscow highlights special nature of Belarus-Russia relations

MOSCOW, 14 March (BelTA) – The official visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Moscow highlights a special nature of relations between Belarus and Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said following the talks with Aleksandr Lukashenko in Moscow on 13 March, BelTA has learned.

“This is Aleksandr Lukashenko's first foreign trip after his re-election as President of Belarus. We highly appreciate it. This shows a special nature of relations between our two fraternal states,” Vladimir Putin said.
He noted that Belarus and Russia are not only close neighbors, but also reliable partners, genuine strategic allies and true friends. “Our cooperation is based on the unshakable principles of mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests, as well as centuries-old common history, family ties between many Russians and Belarusians, and  common moral and spiritual values. It is in this traditionally friendly, businesslike and constructive atmosphere that our talks have taken place today,” Vladimir Putin said.

According to him, almost all key issues of bilateral cooperation in economy, culture, Internet, humanitarian sphere, security and defense were discussed in detail during the talks. The presidents also exchanged views on international issues.
Vladimir Putin emphasized that the joint statement signed by the presidents following the talks clearly confirmed their commitment to multifaceted bilateral cooperation. “Russia and Belarus will continue to jointly build the Union State, deepen integration, promote sustainable economic growth, improve living standards of citizens of our two countries,” he said.

He also pointed to the record high trade in 2024. “Over 90% of all payments in Russia-Belarus commercial transactions are made in our national currencies. Thus, bilateral trade and investment are shielded against the impact of third countries and negative trends in global markets,” the Russian president noted.

Speaking about the industries having the best cooperation prospects, Vladimir Putin named the production of cars and machine tools, agricultural machinery, microelectronics, civil aviation, and energy.

“There are good cooperation prospects in other high-tech industries, like artificial intelligence, big data processing, cloud computing, and the creation of full-fledged digital ecosystems,” he said.
