MINSK, 11 August (BelTA) – I did not aim for the goals the opposition is trying to reach now. Roman Protasevich made the statement when asked by the RT reporter Konstantin Pridybailo whether he believes himself to be a co-author of the coup attempt, BelTA has learned.
Roman Protasevich said: “Maybe yes. I sincerely believed in what I was doing. And I was doing it not quite for what the opposition is coming to now. I was indeed too committed to ideas in many aspects and I believed extremely strongly in some ideals. Which unfortunately are in much shorter supply in real life than I thought.”
In his words, time has taught him a lot. “Even the situation with the aircraft landing probably forced me to stop and take a new look at my life at last. And understand what I truly want. And what I'd been missing all this time. This is why there is no doubt I'd love to change many events. But if we talk about whether I regret things or don't, then I probably don't. Maybe if I chose the options I could have changed when I was quitting the project, I had another workable option. But I was persistent in becoming part of the HQ after all. It is something I regret. Because I got mired in politics. It is one thing to do reporting and some journalistic or even propagandistic projects. It is a completely different thing to become part of a political structure,” he noted.
The matter of sanctions was also mentioned during the interview. “As a matter of principle, I've already said it multiple times that sanctions are the last pressure tool for the opposition. Because unfortunately they have no other tools now. The matter of ethicality of such appeals [for sanctions] is open to debate,” Roman Protasevich added.
