Presidents of two countries invited to Belarus-Russia regional forum

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – The presidents of the two countries have been invited to the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, which is due to take place in Minsk and Minsk Oblast on 28-29 September, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Isachenko told the media, BelTA has learned.

“The presidents have been invited. The format of their participation is under consideration,” Anatoly Isachenko said.

In his words, the countries seek to enhance cooperation between regions, and the forum serves the goal. It will welcome about 1,500 participants on the first day and some 300 on the second one. The Russian delegation will include 120 participants, including some 20 heads of economic entities.

The 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will be dedicated to the Historical Heritage of Great Victory as the Basis for the Development of Social, Economic and Spiritual Ties between the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. The program will include five sections in several themed areas: parliamentary cooperation, joint economic projects, the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, counteraction to the glorification of Nazism, increasing the activity of the rural youth. There will also be a joint session of the Business Councils of Belarus and Russia and a high-level expert session on Education as the Basis of Historical Memory and Further Integration Development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

Issues of regional cooperation, implementation of documents adopted at the previous forums, and the development of sci-tech cooperation between the two countries will be considered at the meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Inter-regional Cooperation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

A plenary session will be held as a central event of the forum to take stock of the work of the sections, discuss key issues and adopt the final document. Plans are in place to sign agreements on cooperation and commercial contracts at the plenary session and the meeting of the chairman of the Council of the Republic and the chairman of the Federation Council with heads of Belarusian regions and subjects of the Russian Federation.
