PM: Belarus, Cuba establish strategic partnership based on equality, respect

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - Belarus and Cuba have established a strategic partnership based on equality and respect for each other's interests, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Prime Minister of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz on 17 July, BelTA has learned.

“I recall with warmth your visit to Belarus in November 2023, and the negotiations we held then. I believe it was the moment we outlined the agenda of bilateral cooperation, which we are successfully implementing now. The Belarusian delegation is paying a return visit to Havana today, and we consider it is the best time to see what has been accomplished and what issues still remain. By solving them we will be able to move forward in the interests of our countries,” Roman Golovchenko said.

According to him, the relations between Belarus and Cuba are absolute open. “We should directly and frankly tell each other about difficult moments, if there are any. We should not keep them quiet. This is how we will be able to ensure the implementation of those projects that are beneficial for both parties,” the prime minister said.

Belarus and Cuba have a lot of things in common. “This is a strategic partnership based on the basic principles of sovereignty, respect for national interests, equality and consideration of each other's interests. We have never changed and will never change our positions on the unacceptability of the economic, trade and financial embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba. We strongly condemn the unlawful inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries sponsoring international terrorism,” the Belarusian head of government said.

“At the political level, our countries enjoy excellent, even ideal, relations. It is however successes in the economic sector that our peoples and our presidents expect in the first place,” Roman Golovchenko said.
