MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) - A regular meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council will take place in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 20 October, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
At the meeting the CIS plenipotentiaries will take stock of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Heads of State Council meetings and will outline the tasks for the implementation of the adopted documents and agreements.
The CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting took place in Astana on 12 October. The ministers of foreign affairs considered 21 issues on the agenda and signed 20 documents. They included the plan of multilevel consultations within the CIS in 2023, the regulation on the interstate program “CIS Capitals of Sports”, the decision to give the Zhukovsky-Gagarin Air Force Academy the status of the CIS base organization for training air force specialists. The CIS Foreign Ministers Council approved the plan of measures for 2023-2024 to implement the International Youth Cooperation Strategy and decided to establish the Commission of Commissioners for Children's Rights (ombudsmen).
The CIS Heads of State Council summit took place in the capital of Kazakhstan on 14 October. The participants of the summit adopted 18 documents. Those were decisions to establish an international organization under the aegis of the Commonwealth of Independent States to support and promote the Russian language, to announce thematic years in the CIS. The documents also included joint statements on cooperation in culture and in climate. According to the decision of the CIS heads of state, St. Petersburg will be the CIS Capital of Culture in 2023. In the field of security the CIS heads of state adopted an agreement on cooperation in combating corruption, the program of cooperation in combating terrorism and extremism in 2023-2025. The CIS Heads of State Council established the Consultative Council of Heads of Electoral Bodies and approved a new version of the regulation on the Commission on Human Rights. The heads of state instructed the governments of the CIS countries to complete the intra-state coordination of the draft agreement on free trade in services, establishment, activity and investment for its further signing.
The CIS plenipotentiaries are also set to discuss the preparation for the meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council which is due on 28 October and sum up the results of the 2021-2022 action plan on implementation of the memorandum on cooperation between the CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission.
