Patrushev: Kiev’s attack on Kursk Oblast planned with participation of Western special services

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) - Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s borderline region of Kursk was planned with the participation of NATO and Western special services. Kiev would have never dared to stage a large-scale incursion into the Russian territory without Washington's blessing and NATO support, Russian presidential aide Nikolay Patrushev said in an interview with the Izvestia daily, RIA Novosti reports.

"It was the West who put the criminal junta at the head of Ukraine. NATO countries have supplied Kiev with weapons, military instructors, and continuous intelligence while controlling the actions of neo-Nazis. The operation in Kursk Oblast was also planned with the participation of NATO and Western special services,” Nikolay Patrushev said.

Nikolay Patrushev dismissed the U.S. Department of State’s claims of its non-involvement in Kiev's actions in Kursk Oblast as not corresponding to reality. "It’s common for the United States to say one thing and do just the opposite. Without their participation and direct endorsement, Kiev would have never dared to set its foot on the Russian territory," he said.

Ukrainian forces started a major attack on Kursk Oblast at 5:30am on 6 August. Their advance was stopped, said the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov. He pledged that Russia’s counter-operation will end with the enemy forces being destroyed or driven back beyond the border. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Kiev has already lost up to 2,640 troops and 37 tanks as of 15 August.

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the incursion as a large-scale provocation and has accused Kiev of indiscriminately targeting civilians, residential areas, and ambulances. President Putin stressed that Moscow’s main goal is now to drive Kiev’s forces out of Russian territory, vowing that “the enemy will receive a worthy response.”

The Russian National Antiterrorism Committee has announced counterterrorism efforts in Kursk Oblast, Bryansk Oblast and Belgorod Oblast to ensure the safety of people and stop terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime.
