Parliament speaker: Belarus, Iran are long-time, trusted partners

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, BelTA learned from the House of Representatives.

The speaker of the House of Representatives conveyed the Belarusian president’s congratulations to Masoud Pezeshkian on assuming office and an invitation to pay an official visit to Belarus at any time convenient for him.

“Belarus is a trusted and long-time partner of Iran,” the speaker of the House of Representatives emphasized. “We have more than 30 years of experience in diplomatic relations. We share common principles, such as commitment to building a multipolar world, inviolability of state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and equitable interaction.”

Igor Sergeyenko informed Masoud Pezeshkian that Belarus had received the status of a full member of the SCO.

“Further multilateral and bilateral political interaction for the benefit of our peoples will be further promoted through the implementation of the roadmap of comprehensive cooperation between Belarus and Iran for 2023-2026. The document was signed during the visit of the Belarusian president to Tehran last March,” Igor Sergeyenko said.

According to the chairman of the House of Representatives, there is every chance to give a boost to mutual trade. “Belarus is ready to supply world quality products at favorable prices, including poultry and beef meat, milk powder, agricultural, truck, quarry and bus equipment. Iran also has goods that are in high demand in the Belarusian market,” he said. In this regard, the parties discussed further operation of the mixed Belarusian-Iranian commission for economic cooperation.

“We consider the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran as one of the significant factors contributing to the expansion of Belarusian-Iranian trade and economic cooperation,” Igor Sergeyenko said and informed the president of Iran about Belarus’ ratification of the document.

The parties also emphasized the importance of developing humanitarian cooperation. “Science, education and healthcare help establish direct ties. Public diplomacy has always been and remains an important resource for strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between our peoples,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
