Opinion: West has launched an offensive against Belarus

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – The West has launched an offensive disregarding both international law and the presumption of innocence, BelTA learned from Nikolai Shchekin, Candidate of Philosophy, Head of the Sociology of Public Administration Department at the Sociology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

“The series of events in the past few months (the failed plot to physically eliminate the president, the provocation of Western special services using the Ryanair plane) fits well into the scenario written by political elites of the collective West. However, the statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg who said that “the alliance is concerned about strengthening cooperation between Russia and Belarus” is a new tidbit and revelation about the role of the alliance in these processes. In any case, this statement of the NATO secretary general suggests the alliance's direct interest and, most likely, participation in the planning and partial financing of provocations against Belarus. Perhaps, for the first time in the history of independent Belarus, NATO has laid bare at the official level its aggressive intentions and a quite definite position regarding its goals and, in particular, regarding our country,” the analyst is sure.

According to him, the direct participation of high-ranking officials of Western countries and military alliances, such as the prime minister and the president of Lithuania, the minister of foreign affairs of Latvia, now the NATO secretary general and many other figures in the preparation of the coup d'etat and numerous provocations reveals comprehensive and systematic work to wage a hybrid war against our country. I believe that the Union State is also under a probable direct military strike. In its aggressive plans the collective West has gone over to the offensive, disregarding both international law and also the principle of presumption of innocence. It has become obvious that the West has always seen us as enemies. Our mere existence is an unacceptable reality for the collective West. Unfair economic competition, subversive activities by means of information fakes and through its intelligence network, state terrorism, continuous attempts to start a civil war, sanctions to strangle our country, blackmail and pressure on top officials… This is a small set of tools that the West is using against us pursuing the goal of a soft (although military option is not excluded either) occupation of Belarus,” Nikolai Shchekin said. “I am sure that in the coming weeks NATO will show itself as, first of all, a military bloc in relation to the Union State and Belarus. I am talking about cyberattacks on state institutions or another provocation on the border of the country. We should also expect the strengthening of a full-scale campaign to discredit the head of state and government bodies,” he added.

The expert believes that the information voiced by Protasevich in an interview on the ONT channel will send geopolitical shock waves. “The reaction of the so-called opposition and the self-exiled, and also the West to Protasevich's interview has confirmed the facts voiced by him. We can assume that this information has ruined, to some extent, the game of the collective West and caused an organizational chaos in the bureaucratic system of the special services of Western countries and NATO. However, such state of things will trigger a more aggressive response from the West, up to an open diplomatic war (turning down the accreditation of Belarusian diplomats) and technological threats (in the information and energy industries). Therefore, the structural and functional strengthening of the country's Security Council, the new laws on mass media, the Security Council's resolution No.1 “On measures to ensure the national security of the Republic of Belarus”, and also the cooperation with the military-industrial complex of Russia, including the supply of modern weaponry represent adequate steps to shield against the actions of the West,” the political scientist said.

“In the near future we can expect many more loud statements and revelations (including from Protasevich and others), confirming the militant intentions and actions of the political elites of the West and NATO secret services. Effective interaction between Belarus and Russia has become the main stumbling block for the West in its conquest and colonization of the world. This is a time for us to sober up, to conduct the country's national mobilization, deep comprehensive analysis and to reflect on what has happened to us, what is in store for us and what steps to take next,” Nikolai Shchekin said.
