MOSCOW, 17 September (BelTA) – By its parliamentary elections, Russia has drawn certain conclusions from the events that took place during and after the 2020 presidential election in Belarus, Oleg Gaidukevich, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of Belarus, told reporters. Oleg Gaidukevich is monitoring the elections to the State Duma of Russia as part of the observation mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.
“Russia has not just learned certain lessons, but has also taken action to prevent the developments that took place in Belarus. Secondly, I believe that the leadership of the Russian Federation perfectly understands why this situation in Belarus occured. Not a single political expert even in the West hides this; they say that if Belarus collapses, it will take them closer to Russia. Belarus survived and slowed them down, it remained a sovereign democratic state. Belarus showed that color revolutions can be stopped. We are probably the first state in the post-Soviet space where a color revolution failed. And this is a big advantage for Russia, because our heads of state and our peoples understand one thing: together we are stronger, together we strengthen the statehood of Russia and the statehood of Belarus. Therefore, it is obvious to me that we learn a lot from our Russian brothers, but Russians also learned a lot from us, especially during our last election campaign,” he said.
Oleg Gaidukevich noted that Western countries use similar schemes in the build-up to the elections in Belarus and in Russia. “The embassies of foreign countries post the routes protesters will take on their websites in Belarus and Russia. We see the same political technologies, the same methods of interfering in the domestic political agenda in Belarus and in Russia through financing certain politicians and political forces. How can one fail to notice this absurdity when at meetings of European structures they discuss how to support the protest movement in our states instead of how to improve inter-state relations? What does this mean? Russian or Belarusian diplomats have never done this. Our cause is right. Victory will be ours,” he said.
For the first time the elections in Russia will be held for three days - from 17 to 19 September.
