MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Organizers of protests, who have fled abroad, use Belarusians as cannon fodder. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich made the statement after Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko hosted a government conference to discuss the social and political situation in the country on 29 March, BelTA has learned.
During the government conference the head of state was informed about the situation abroad and about the organization of military exercises in neighboring countries. “Unfortunately, we see that the theme of these exercises is not defensive: these exercises focus on general response to crises and practice offensive actions,” Aleksandr Volfovich noted.
Participants of the meeting also discussed in detail the development of the social and political situation in Belarus. Efforts of law enforcement agencies to stabilize the situation and maintain public order were discussed. Aleksandr Volfovich pointed out: “Various destructive forces have attempted to destabilize the situation in Belarus, provoke the people of Belarus, and increase the number of protesters. These events are managed by people, who are staying abroad, by the so-called leaders, who are ‘concerned' about what is going on in Belarus, by traitors (there is no other word for it) from the BYPOL initiative [an antigovernment organization made up of former Belarusian law enforcement officers].”
Aleksandr Volfovich stressed that these people spare no thought to what may happen to the citizens, who act upon their calls and participate in illegal events. “They view the citizens as cannon fodder. They are absolutely unbothered by what may happen to them and what prosecution measures they may face,” the official stated.
Aleksandr Volfovich thanked Belarusians for properly evaluating the situation and making the right conclusions. “Because every Belarusian treasures the peaceful and calm country of Belarus,” he stressed.
Speaking about the recent foiled terrorist attacks in Belarus, the official noted that the national security system does its job.
“There are certain other reports I cannot disclose right now. We have lists of all these miscreants. We may publish these lists soon so that they will know that we know,” Aleksandr Volfovich added. “Those people have abandoned their country, have fled abroad and are now trying to set Belarusians at odds with each other. Belarusians have always lived a peaceful life. I am convinced that the current system will ensure law and order in the territory of our country.”
