MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) - The ideas of Nazism and extremist organizations are used to destabilize the Belarusian society, Aleksei Avdonin, an analyst with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR), said in an interview to ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has signed the laws to prevent the rehabilitation of Nazism and amend the laws on counteracting extremism. Both the documents, which had been previously adopted by MPs and approved by the Council of the Republic, have been registered in the National Register of Legal Acts of the Republic of Belarus.
According to the expert, extremism often means mass radicalization. “It is not just one person, it is always a group of people focused on creating tension in society. It may include both terrorist acts and attempts to sow intolerance towards other segments of the population or representatives of other nations,” said Aleksei Avdonin.
In his words, it is crucial to immediately identify such organizations, sources of funding, and suppress their activities. “There is no other way. Our opponents are interested in using the ideas of Nazism, the ideas of various extremist organizations in order to rock the boat, to breed intolerance towards each other,” the expert said.
