Opinion: Meeting between Lukashenko, Putin is indication of support, movement in the same direction

MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) - The meeting of Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg is an indication of the support and movement in the same direction, member of the Council of the Republic Marina Ilyina told BelTA.

“The meeting of the leaders of the two states is an important event. In the current situation, it is an indication of the support and a sign that the countries are moving in the same direction. I would like to highlight four issues discussed at the meeting. The first one was a decision to keep gas prices for Belarus in 2022 at the level of 2021. This will allow keeping tabs on prices for goods and services. The second one was a decision on an additional credit package for Belarus taking into account the ‘tax maneuver', which will provide the country with financial resources for servicing the external state debt," the senator said.

She also highlighted the agreement on joint measures to counter the sanctions of the European Union and the United States by means of diversifying markets and commodity exports, which will help ensure the stable operation of the economies of the two countries and further economic growth.

"The fourth issue is about the integration of Belarus and Russia, which will be promoted in the context of the Union State. The working meeting lasted for more than 5 hours, which testifies to the depth and importance of the issues discussed. All these topics are of great importance for both Belarus and Russia," Marina Ilyina said.
