MOSCOW, 7 October (BelTA) – Every two or three years Kyrgyzstan experiences either a short-lived coup d'etat attempt or political turbulence, Russian political expert, Director General of the Center for Political Information Alexey Mukhin said in an interview with BelTA.
“They rapidly decline, because the Kyrgyz people are apparently a very passionate nation who express their political views in an extremely emotional way, literally exposing their cities to plundering. I think that it is a kind of a national peculiarity. However, the situation is chaotic only at first glance. I would draw your attention to the fact that such events take place exactly when it is necessary to divert the attention of either Russians or the global community from the political processes that take place in another part of the world. I mean the U.S. presidential election. It was noticed that the U.S. embassies, in Kyrgyzstan in particular, have built strong ties with the civil society. Therefore, it is very easy to stage such riots without particular political consequences. I think that now the situation in Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Nagorno-Karabakh and in the future probably in Transnistria and Central Asia may enter a turbulent phase in order to divert attention from the very complicated and I would say very dirty presidential election in the United States. Basically, this can be compared to setting a fire to a neighbor's barn to hide a fire in your own house,” the expert said.
Aleksey Mukhin is sure that the situations in Kyrgyzstan and in Belarus are certainly different. “First of all, this is because of the character of the people, the political culture,” he said. “In addition, the frequent toppling of the heads of state of Kyrgyzstan, frankly speaking, boggles the mind, while the government in Belarus is more or less stable. Another significant difference is that this scenario has not worked in Belarus, while in Kyrgyzstan such things succeed regularly and no longer cause any surprise.”
“The recurring turbulence in Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine suggests that the weakening of the political system can be detrimental. As soon as you begin to compromise your sovereignty, the political system starts collapsing and then they do whatever they want with you - any actor, any player who is interested in your resources or who wants to test or try something,” Alexey Mukhin said.
