MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - By demonizing Russia and Belarus, the United States seeks to raise its political status, deputy director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
According to him, American and European propaganda has unleashed an undisguised smear campaign against Belarus and Russia. Yet, everybody understands that the danger has been invented and blown out of proportion.
"I am against that we follow the suit of the U.S. and European media and start beating the drums of war. They have their own interests. We understand that they want to create the impression of Russia's imminent invasion and of Joe Biden talking Putin out of it and thus removing the danger of war. To show what a great president Joe Biden is. But why should we participate in this campaign? Clearly, they have inflated this threat of invasion. It has been clearly engineered. After all, both Belarus and Russia have strong means to deal with the military buildup which we have seen recently," Vladimir Zharikhin said.
He urged to fight a real danger, not a fictional one. This danger is COVID-19. "I hope that we will cope with this," Vladimir Zharikhin added.
