MINSK, 3 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian-USA relations are based on a pragmatic agenda, and they will continue their further gradual development, Oleg Makarov, director of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR), told BelTA as he commented on U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo's visit to Belarus.
According to Oleg Makarov, the Belarusian-USA relations have "a concrete agenda, without any emergency signals”. "It includes the issues related to the diplomatic relations, the embassy, the exchange of ambassadors. I think it is important for any country, even for such a giant as the United States,” the BISR director said.
The bilateral relations will continue their further gradual development. Belarus and the United States will have to address various political, economic issues, including those related to energy resources. Oleg Makarov did not call Michael Pompeo's statement on the United States' readiness to provide Belarus with 100% of oil at competitive prices as a sensational one. “This is the U.S. policy. They are interested in supplying Europe with hydrocarbons. It can hardly be called a sensation,” the analyst said.
