Opinion: Belarus, Russia need to promptly solve many issues in economy, security

MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) – There are many issues in economy and security that Belarus and Russia need to resolve promptly, political analyst Aleksei Dzermant told the SB.Belarus Segodnya daily, BelTA has learned.

"We see that the West continues its attempts to destabilize the situation in the country. Accordingly, this requires serious coordination of efforts, because the supporters of the pro-Western opposition have switched to individual terror. The situation on the borders is changing too. We hear threats of a new round of sanctions. The relations with Ukraine are not getting better. Given these circumstances the president can meet for talks at any time," he said.

According to the expert, Belarus has to look for the mechanisms to offset the sanctions pressure, and, of course, Russia is partner number one in this regard.

“Vladimir Putin gave an interesting comment after the meeting. He said that we have not yet reached the level of integration as in the EU. In other words, the Russian president has outlined the goal to move forward to. There is nothing new here as all of this has been spelled out in the Union State treaty. Vladimir Putin stressed the main thing: the integration does not abolish national sovereignty. It is just that some things can be accelerated in the context of the deteriorating international situation,” the political scientist noted. “Let's do simple math: considering the current situation and the goals we can assume what topics the leaders of Belarus and Russia discussed and that will be in the spotlight in the near future.”
