New mechanisms to resolve conflict in Donbass agreed in Minsk

MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – The Trilateral Contact Group on resolving the situation in Ukraine's east has agreed on new cooperation mechanisms to find political solutions to the conflict in the east of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Russian President Administration Dmitry Kozak told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“In my view, it was a rather constructive discussion involving all interested parties. We have agreed on temporary decision-making mechanisms to resolve the conflict in the near term. The first of them pertains to humanitarian matters and security. We have agreed to concentrate our efforts within this week on determining all the persons that are to be freed by both sides. We have agreed to look for new disengagement areas that would suit both sides. We have also agreed on new cooperation mechanisms to find political solutions to this conflict,” Dmitry Kozak said.

In his words, the last point is of particular importance. “We believe that this is a crucial point in the crisis settlement. Unless we take groundbreaking decisions to resolve the conflict, we will not be able to advance in humanitarian, security and economic matters. Such a mechanism was agreed in principle. I really hope that the next session of the contact group will finalize the mechanism of building a dialogue between the parties,” Dmitry Kozak said.
