MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) - There are forces that do not want close integration in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Honorary Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said during the online meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 21 May, BelTA learned.
“Thanks to our efforts, the EAEU has systematically integrated into the global economic architecture and has become a large-scale single market, ensuring the stable development of the national economies of our countries. We have passed a test of complexities both of a global nature and specific external pressures that are periodically exerted on parts of our union. There are forces that do not want close integration in our region. We must not succumb to such trends. We have seen how it ends up more than once,” the first president of Kazakhstan stressed.
He noted that the economic crisis caused by the pandemic tested the strength of the integration association. Security issues, from food and medicine to digital, financial and physical infrastructure, have come to the fore.
According to Nursultan Nazarbayev, it is important to pay special attention to a number of areas today. One of them is the development of social infrastructure. Here it is crucial to have effective cooperation, maximum progress in the medicine and medical products market.
The honorary chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Union also focused on food security, coordinated agro-industrial policy, cooperation, and elimination of food shortages. “We have everything to ensure food security for all the citizens of our countries. We just need to plan properly,” he said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also called for the joint development of a green economy and the removal of barriers to trade.
