MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia will monitor, as part of the CIS observation mission, the preparation and conduct of the early presidential election in Kyrgyzstan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.
The coordinator of the delegation is Nikolai Shevchuk, a member of the Parliamentary Assembly's Commission on Ecology, Nature Management and Disaster Management. The delegation will also include Nikita Berezin, a member of the Information Policy Commission, and Vladimir Krugly, a member of the Commission on Social and Youth Policy, Science, Culture and Humanitarian Affairs.
During the visit, the MPs will hold meetings with the leadership of the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan, the heads of the missions of the CIS Executive Committee and other international observation missions. On the voting day, the MPs will visit polling stations in Bishkek and take part in a meeting of the council of coordinators of the CIS observation mission.
The early presidential election in Kyrgyzstan is scheduled for 10 January. A referendum to choose governance system in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan will be held on the same day. Citizens will be choosing between the parliamentary and presidential forms of governance. As of 28 December 2020, the CEC accredited 311 international observers from 43 countries representing 31 international organizations.
Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly have considerable experience in international election observation. The MPs have monitored the electoral processes in Abkhazia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and other states.
