MP: Vietnam, Belarus seek to follow their own development path

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Vietnam have many things in common, our peoples are very hardworking, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Klishevich told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“Despite the distance, Belarus and Vietnam have a lot in common. First of all, it is history. Vietnam has also heroically fought for its own path of development, for its sovereignty and independence. They revere their history and pass the historic memory on to the younger generation, including the Youth Union members whom we are hosting these days. These people want Vietnam to keep going along its own path. Belarus is also a heroic country that defended its sovereignty and independence on the frontlines and in partisan units during the Great Patriotic War,” Sergei Klishevich said.

The Vietnamese, like the Belarusians, are quite hardworking people, the parliamentarian remarked. “They also do not have enough natural resources to simply live on a resource rent. They work very hard, like Belarusians. Therefore, today, during the time of geopolitical transformations, when a new world is emerging, it is important for us to be friends and allies with such nations. It is important to communicate with those nations that, like us, stand for a fair world order. The Vietnamese fully support us in this. We are on the same page with them on these issues, including at international platforms. I want to emphasize again that we have our own development path. And the Vietnamese would challenge anyone who would try to knock them off their course. Therefore, it is important for us to have such meetings. We are set to discuss a number of things, including the conclusion of agreements between the Communist Party of Belarus and the Youth Union of Vietnam,” the MP said.

“Our friends from Vietnam saw Belarus with their own eyes. I think this will be a good foundation for stronger cooperation across the board,” the deputy emphasized.

A Vietnamese delegation headed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU), Chairman of the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam Bui Quang Huy is on a visit to Belarus on 8-12 March upon the invitation of the member of the House of Representatives, Secretary of the Communist Youth League of Belarus Sergei Klishevich.

On 8 March the Vietnamese delegation visited the Khatyn Memorial Complex and laid flowers at the memorial to the victims of the genocide during the Great Patriotic War. The village of Khatyn is the twin village of Sơn Mỹ destroyed during the Vietnam War. This partnership was established as part of a municipal and regional twinning program to strengthen bilateral relations and cultural exchange.

On 9 March the Vietnamese delegation was hosted by members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. They discussed plans to expand contacts between youth organizations of Belarus and Vietnam. A visit to Minsk Tractor Works is also planned. On 10 March, the Vietnamese delegation will tour the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History. After that they will meet with Belarusian veterans of the Vietnam War at the House of Friendship.
