MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – An active dialogue of Belarus’ and Iran’s legislative branches of power fully meets mutual interests of the partnership. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko made the statement as he met with an Iranian delegation led by President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian on 20 August, BelTA has learned.
Igor Sergeyenko said: “A year ago I had the honor of attending a solemn inauguration ceremony in Tehran and of congratulating you on assuming the office of the president as well as the honor of passing an invitation from the Belarusian head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko for you to visit Belarus. It is a great pleasure to meet with you in Minsk, in the hospitable Belarusian land. Iran has always been and remains a kind friend and a reliable partner for Belarus. Our countries are connected by 32 years of diplomatic relations, regular contacts at the top level and the high one. Interest in persistent and sustainable development of the bilateral ties grows stronger. It was vividly confirmed by the visit of our head of state to Iran in 2023 and by your visit to Minsk.”

The speaker of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament underlined that promising avenues for advancing Belarus-Iran relations had been determined during the distinguished guest’s meeting with the Belarus president earlier that day. A number of documents on international cooperation were also signed. The number includes a joint statement on stepping up Belarus-Iran interstate relations, which will give a special status to bilateral interaction. “It was noted that your current visit marks a new stage of mutual relations between our countries,” the chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus noted.
In his words, an active dialogue of Belarus’ and Iran’s legislative branches of power fully meets mutual interests of the partnership. “We are interested in further enhancement of the interparliamentary ties. We are grateful to Iran for assisting Belarus with getting the observer status in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly,” Igor Sergeyenko said. “By the way, the first contact with the leadership of this respected international body took place within the framework of my visit to Tehran last year.”
Belarus highly appreciates Iran’s solid support on a number of key items on the international agenda. “We are grateful for the Iranian parliament’s delegation taking part in international observation of the Belarus president election in January 2025,” the speaker noted.

Igor Sergeyenko spoke in positive terms about results of the visit of a delegation of the Iranian parliament’s friendship group on cooperation with the Belarusian parliament. “We look forward to a visit of our good friend, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Mr. [Mohammad Bagher] Ghalibaf in 2025,” Igor Sergeyenko added.
“We believe that at present the work of parliamentarians should be focused on providing maximum assistance with fulfilling the roadmap on comprehensive cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2023-2026. It is of fundamental importance from the point of view of further expansion of trade and economic ties,” the speaker stated. “MPs have a good grasp of the situation in constituencies and are ready to assist with the establishment of comprehensive contacts between regions of Belarus and Iran, with the establishment of direct ties. It is also a good tool for expanding business exchanges and tourist exchanges. We see parliamentarians and all the people, who come from Iran for a visit, as good friends, with whom we are ready to advance relations across the board. Including trade, economic, humanitarian relations and other relations of mutual interest for the two countries.”
