MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – A hybrid war that employs all kinds of technologies is in progress against Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Oleg Gaidukevich, a member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party. The MP took part in an international conference on counteracting external challenges and threats from the point of view of the parliamentary dimension of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
The MP said: “I am convinced that a hybrid war that employs the entire range of technologies starting with information warfare, buildup of military forces at the border with Belarus, interference in the domestic political situation in the country, and the financing of political forces is in progress against our country. Belarus encountered it in full measure in 2020 and the latest presidential election campaign. Moreover, they don't hide that they intend to change Belarus' geopolitical development vector and effectively submit the country to external administration. Just what we saw in other countries in the course of color revolutions and coups.”
In his words, integration efforts of Belarus and Russia in the sphere of national security, defensive capability, and counteraction of external factors are becoming extremely important in these conditions. “In Belarus and Russia political forces are financed by the same funds, attempts are being organized to destabilize the situation in accordance with the same scenario. It is no secret. I am convinced we should more harshly respond to it,” the politician noted.
The international conference on counteracting external challenges and threats from the point of view of the parliamentary dimension of the Union State of Belarus and Russia includes online and offline components. Studios in Moscow, Minsk, and other CIS cities were made available. Members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, members of the Belarusian parliament and the Russian one, representatives of international organizations, ministries and government agencies, higher educational establishments and research institutes of Belarus and Russia, leading political analysts and law experts were invited to participate in the conference.
Oleg Gaidukevich added: “Such conferences are also important because they allow not only comparing views but also working out concrete recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly for all the government agencies. The recommendations will later be used in work.”
The conference includes three panel sessions: “Counteraction of external challenges and threats. Observance of rights and freedoms of citizens in the Union State of Belarus and Russia and in foreign countries”, “Election legislation and the law enforcement practice in the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation, and foreign countries”, and “The preservation of historical memory, counteraction of attempts to glorify Nazism and revise results of the Great Patriotic War”.
The conference was organized upon instructions the leadership of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia gave during the 59th session of the assembly.
