Moscow to host next meeting of Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in December

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) - The next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will take place in Moscow in December, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Bakytzhan Sagintayev told the media in Minsk on 30 September, BelTA has learned.

“The next meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will be held in Moscow on 11 December,” Bakytzhan Sagintayev said.

He noted that at today's meeting in Minsk, the heads of government of the EAEU countries discussed several significant issues on the integration agenda. These include, first and foremost, the implementation of digital technologies, the development of transport infrastructure, monitoring of goods flows, the intergovernmental programs, and support for cooperative projects in the manufacturing sector and agriculture.“The prospects for the further development of the Eurasian Economic Union have been defined. A decision has been made to implement a mechanism for tracking goods imported into the EAEU customs territory. Prior to this, such work was conducted on a pilot basis. A list of goods subject to control is currently being compiled. The EAEU Integrated Information System will facilitate the exchange of data and electronic documents between member countries. The EAEU countries continue their course towards technological transformation while preserving digital sovereignty,” Bakytzhan Sagintayev noted.
Special emphasis has been placed on supporting the agricultural industry. “Cooperation projects within the EAEU in the agricultural industry will now be eligible for financial support from the EAEU budget. The prime ministers have approved the corresponding approaches. The EEC, together with the member states, will develop the necessary regulatory framework to foster domestic technologies, establish efficient supply chains, and ensure resource provision. We expect this mechanism to organically complement national support measures," Bakytzhan Sagintayev said.
Another topic of the meeting was the expansion of transport and logistics capabilities. The heads of government discussed the development of transport infrastructure along the East-West and North-South corridors, including within the framework of the efforts to align it with the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative.
“Eurasian transport corridors, including railway, road, and port infrastructure, account for a significant share of transit shipments. Last year alone, they handled 70% of the total cargo flow. Specifically, the North-South railway transport corridor transported 12 million tonnes. According to expert estimates, infrastructure modernization will increase the capacity of this corridor's eastern route to 15 million tonnes by 2027 and to 20 million tonnes by 2030. This route has significant prospects, given our interaction with China, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Mongolia," Bakytzhan Sagintayev emphasized.
