Moscow hosts CIS ministerial consultations on export control

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – Representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs met in Moscow on 11 December to discuss interaction of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the field of export control and non-proliferation, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA.

During the meeting representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs exchanged up-to-date information about the state of the national systems of export control and about the situation regarding multilateral regimes of export control.

During the consultations evaluations and experience of fulfilling the UN Security Council resolution No.1540 (2004) were exchanged. The importance was stressed of further enhancement of the CIS states’ potential for the sake of efficient accomplishment of the goals and tasks specified by the resolution.

Participants of the consultations underlined the advisability of preserving the Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation purely as a tool for bolstering trust and stepping up transparency in the field of missiles.

The delegations stated it was useful to exchange opinions about the items on the agenda and to continue the practice of these consultations.
