MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to draw up a new concept of the foreign policy of Belarus, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he addressed the 6th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 11 February, BelTA has learned.
“Each and every one of us should stop seeing our country in a flawed way: we are small, we want to be a part of Europe, we want to align ourselves with someone, and so on. We should view our Belarus not as something between two things but as our own country, our native land. We live here and we know perfectly well where to we want to take our country tomorrow. Simply put, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set out to develop a new concept of Belarus' foreign policy,” Vladimir Makei said.
According to him, Belarus intends to continue pursuing a multi-vector foreign policy, but there is a logical question whether it is viable in the current circumstances when Belarus is under tremendous pressure from the West, which is supported, unfortunately, by some Belarusians.
“Those runaway ‘well-wishers' literally demand ‘even more resources' for their revolution, begging to adopt the fourth set of sanctions. They call it ‘smart economic pressure'. What next? Smart bombs that will kill everyone within reach? We have already seen how ‘smart' that pressure is on the example of the resort in Druskininkai and thousands of Belarusian enterprises that were affected by this ‘charity campaign',” the minister pointed out.
