MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – In a statement on the border situation, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Lithuanian trucks accumulated on the approaches to the Kamenny Log and Benyakoni checkpoints will be moved to special parking areas near Kotlovka for their safety and security, BelTA reports.

“Due to Lithuania’s unilateral closure of checkpoints on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, over 1,100 Lithuanian freight vehicles have accumulated in Belarus. To ensure the safety and security of these vehicles, which are concentrated primarily on the access roads to the Kamenny Log and Benyakoni checkpoints, the Belarusian side has decided to relocate them to specially designated parking areas near the Kotlovka checkpoint,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
For humanitarian reasons, drivers have been given the opportunity to leave Belarus and return to their permanent places of residence until the Lithuanian side decides to fully reopen the border.

“We are ready to provide the necessary assistance to those drivers who, for one reason or another, are unable to leave Belarus,” the ministry noted.

The ministry placed the blame for the situation on Lithuania, asserting: “We emphasize that all additional costs incurred by freight carriers, senders, and recipients of cargo in Lithuania, other EU countries, and beyond are solely due to the ill-considered, arbitrary, and politicized actions of the Lithuanian authorities.”

The ministry noted that Belarus reserves the right to apply all legal measures against these vehicles.
