MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) – The visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Pakistan will signal the country’s interest in promoting development and cooperation, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich said, BelTA has learned.

“It is the first time that we are participating in the SCO summit in Islamabad at the level of the head of government. Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko is set to hold bilateral meetings, take part in the general meeting [of the Heads of Government Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states]. Although this platform is new for us, we share its ideology and its approach based on mutual respect. We studied it from various perspectives, and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko set the tone, which helped us build a better understanding of what we should focus on,” said Sergei Lukashevich.

The first deputy minister recalled that Belarus became a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization at the SCO Heads of State Council meeting in Astana. “Thus, Belarus became the tenth member of the SCO family, which is rather symbolic. The flags of the participating countries are raised in Islamabad, including the flag of our beloved Belarus,” he added.

Speaking about cooperation prospects, the first deputy minister remarked that this platform allows discussing issues of concern with a greater number of countries. “This includes food security, stability of financial flows, humanitarian cooperation and other things. Tomorrow, the prime minister will reaffirm Belarus’ commitment to development and cooperation, the peace-loving course that we have always pursued throughout our history. This is a very good opportunity to boost the excellent reputation of our country,” emphasized Sergei Lukashevich.
