MFA: Belarus received no invitation to Kastus Kalinouski's reburial ceremony in Vilnius

MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – Belarus has not received any official invitation from Lithuania to attend a ceremony to reinter Kastus Kalinouski's remains in Vilnius, Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a briefing, BelTA has learned.

“We (I believe the same as you) have read statements made by certain Lithuanian high officials about the invitation of our governmental delegation to the ceremony. However, we have not received any invitations through our diplomatic channels,” Anatoly Glaz said.

Earlier, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is committed to finding the historical truth regarding the identity of Kastus Kalinouski (also known as Konstanty Kalinowski). The ministry said it is ready to work together with Lithuanian and Polish partners as well as the Belarusian society on the matter. In November 2018, Belarusian government experts went to Vilnius to get familiar with the research into remains of those who participated in the insurrection of 1863. They met with Lithuanian counterparts and made their own conclusions. The parties then discussed the possibility of working together for the precise identification of the remains and also of making inscriptions in Belarusian on graves during the reburial procedures.
