MFA advises world leaders to re-visit UN Charter. adjust foreign political approaches

MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) – Many lworld eaders should probably have another read of the UN Charter and adjust their approaches to foreign policy, Belarus' Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov said at an event in Minsk to mark the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, BelTA has learned.

“All states, regardless of political system, economic potential or geographical location, certainly recognize the UN Charter as a common guideline,” Yevgeny Shestakov said. “However, not all of them follow its provisions as unquestioningly.”

“Belarus believes that the global order should be built on trust, dialogue and full observance of the UN Charter, as it was conceived by the founding fathers of the organization,” he said.
To this end, Belarus extends the hand of friendship and peace to all states, the deputy foreign minister said.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, veteran diplomats from Belarus, foreign diplomats, and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Belarus Rasul Baghirov.

26 June marks the 80th anniversary of signing the UN Charter in San Francisco. The creation of the United Nations shaped the post-war international order, with its provisions becoming a cornerstone of international law.
