MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) - The systemic foundations of international security are being eroded, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he addressed the high-level segment of the Conference on Disarmament, BelTA has learned.
According to the minister, unfortunately, over the past 20 years the world has not become more stable or more predictable. "The systemic foundations of international security are being eroded before our eyes. Trust is being forcefully replaced with confrontation, dialogue with an accusatory rhetoric," he said.
The minister is convinced that "a new arms race is unfolding." In his view, "multilateral non-distribution, arms control and disarmament mechanisms are falling apart and decaying, becoming hostages to politicized approaches, mutual grievances and a desire to achieve unilateral military advantages."
