MINSK, 19 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei will take part in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on 21-26 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The 77th session will become a kind of stress test for the entire UN system and it will show whether the organization is capable of operating amidst the crisis of multilateralism and extreme aggravation of contradictions between member states. The tasks of the delegation of the Republic of Belarus will be to defend national interests in the context of the ongoing complex international security crisis, to counter attempts to undermine the international multilateral system and to legalize the Western sanctions policy in the UN as a method of interaction with the member states of the organization,” the press service noted.
During the visit to New York Vladimir Makei will deliver speeches at the general debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, take part in meetings of foreign ministers of the CSTO and the Non-Aligned Movement member states, the ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, the ministerial meeting of the Like-Minded Group of Countries Supporters of Middle-Income Countries, the signing of the Convention on the facilitation of border crossing procedures for passengers, luggage and load-luggage carried in international traffic by rail.
On the sidelines of the General Assembly events Vladimir Makei will hold a number of bilateral meetings with counterparts from Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the leadership of the United Nations.
In the run-up to the Belarusian delegation's participation in the General Assembly meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is launching the campaign “Following Makei to the UN” on social media.
