MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) - Closer integration is in line with the interests of both Russia and Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media on 2 September, BelTA has learned.
He noted that some time ago, after analyzing the provisions of the Union State Treaty, the parties realized that a number of them had not been fulfilled. Therefore, it was decided to implement the provisions of the treaty that are related to closer integration in various areas. I don't know why anyone is trying to present it in some completely different light. This work is carried out within the framework of the provisions of the treaty that provide for closer integration in a number of areas," the minister said.
“This does not mean that Russia insists and Belarus resists. It was a mutual decision. This decision on closer integration is in line with the interests of both states. It is necessary to proceed from this, and not from the artificial attempts to stir up tensions around the non-existent problem associated with the alleged loss of sovereignty," Vladimir Makei emphasized.
