MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – The participation of the Belarusian leader Aleksandr Lukashenko in the Tianjin summit will bolster Belarus-China cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan.
Zhang Wenchuan noted: “The Belarus president will visit China in order to participate in a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tianjin and attend festivities on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the war of the Chinese nation’s resistance against Japanese invaders and the world antifascist war. It is Aleksandr Lukashenko’s second visit to China this year. The fact fully demonstrates the high level and a special nature of Chinese-Belarusian relations.”
The ambassador noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit will take place in Tianjin on 31 August and 1 September. It is the fifth summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization hosted by China. It will be the largest summit in the organization’s entire history.
“It will be the first time the Belarus president will take part in the summit as the head of an SCO member state. It is of milestone importance,” the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission stressed. “Since China officially took over presidency over the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in July 2024 Belarus has been cooperating in various areas within the framework of the organization in full measure and supports China’s efforts as a presiding country by all means. Aleksandr Lukashenko’s participation in the summit will give a new impulse to further enhancement of cooperation of the two sides in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and will contribute to building a tighter community with a shared fate by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.”
Zhang Wenchuan stressed: “The Belarusian leader has also been invited to an anniversary celebration dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese nation’s war of resistance against Japanese invaders and the world antifascist war that will take place in Tiananmen Square in Beijing in the first half of the day on 3 September. It will be the second time the Belarus president will take part in such an event. The first time happened in 2015 when anniversary festivities dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory took place. Both China and Belarus lost a huge number of people. The two nations courageously fought and made an important contribution to the Victory in the world antifascist war. Both sides jointly celebrate this great victory and demonstrate to the world their resolve to defend the historic truth, promote a just outlook on the history of World War Two and jointly protect the international order.”
“I am convinced that Aleksandr Lukashenko’s forthcoming visit will be surely crowned with complete success, will give a new impulse to the advancement of multilateral cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, to the reinforcement of historical foundations of many years of friendship, and to the elevation of Chinese-Belarusian relations to an even higher level,” the Chinese ambassador to Belarus stated.
