Li Qiang: Belarus, China should value friendship between states, peoples

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Belarus and China should especially value friendship between states and peoples, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang said at a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 22 August, BelTA has learned.

Li Qiang noted that he was very happy to visit Belarus and meet with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. He also conveyed sincere greetings from the Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Belarusian leader.

The premier highlighted that immediately upon his arrival to Belarus, he laid a wreath at the Victory Memorial in Minsk. “This reminds me of those glorious times when 70 years ago the Chinese and Belarusian peoples fought together, side by side, in the war against fascism. Mao Zedong's oldest son traveled thousands of kilometers to come here and fought as an instructor in a tank company on the 1st Belarusian Front. In turn, Belarusian soldiers and the Soviet Army went to China to fight against the invaders," he said.
The premier mentioned the proverb widely known in Belarus: True and close friends are rare treasures that cannot be measured by wealth. “I believe that we should especially value our friendship, which is sealed with blood [spilled during the fight against fascism],” Li Qiang said.
According to him, in recent years the Belarusian-Chinese relations have been developing steadily under the strategic leadership of the heads of the two countries and have reached the level of comprehensive strategic partnership. Li Qiang emphasized that bilateral cooperation is at an incredibly high level. "We are constantly deepening the political mutual trust and building up business cooperation," he added. In July 2024, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Xi Jinping met in Astana where they developed new plans to deepen the interaction between the two countries. "This time during the visit, I am ready to fully implement the agreements of the two countries at the highest level with my Belarusian colleagues and further build up our mutually beneficial cooperation for prosperity of our countries and peoples," the premier said.
Li Qiang made a number of proposals to bolster cooperation. "We need to maintain political mutual trust at a high level," he emphasized. "Over the past 32 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Belarus cooperation has always shown its vital force and energy regardless of the external environment. The most important reason for this is the high level of our mutual trust. Mr. President, being the most beloved politician of the Belarusian people, you have been friendly to China for a long time.” It was noted that Aleksandr Lukashenko has paid many visits to China and held meetings with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which the two leaders had exchanged strategic views and set new goals for the sustainable development of the Chinese-Belarusian relations. "We are pleased to note that at all levels, in all fields, we compare note and exchange views on core interests of the two countries in a timely manner," Li Qiang said.
