Lebedev: CIS Heads of Government Council meeting went well

MINSK, 12 November (BelTA) - The meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council was constructive and businesslike, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told the media following the CIS Heads of Government Council video conference on 12 November, BelTA has learned.

According to Sergei Lebedev, the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting was slated to take place in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The epidemic situation in the CIS member states made its adjustments and a decision was taken to hold a video conference.

“Good preparation of all the documents submitted to the CIS Heads of Government Council contributed to a very constructive and businesslike meeting. All the heads of the delegations and heads of government provided their assessment of the economic and humanitarian cooperation within the CIS. Most importantly, they not only looked back at the 30-year development of the Commonwealth of Independent States, they also looked forward. A number of documents signed today are valid through 2030, some – through 2025,” said Sergei Lebedev.

According to Sergei Lebedev, Kazakhstan will preside in the CIS in 2022. “I would also like to praise Belarus for its successful presidency in the CIS. It is still a month and a half before the end of the year, and Belarus continues presiding in the CIS. I have to say that Belarus will still be chairing many important events, including the CIS Economic Council meeting in Moscow on 2 December. Our Kazakh partners have already declared their readiness to assume the presidency on 1 January 2022. They already have a draft concept of their CIS presidency, which they plan to present at the start of 2022,” he stressed.
