Kyrgyzstan ready to host in-person CIS summit

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - Kyrgyzstan is ready to host an in-person meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Leonid Anfimov told reporters, BelTA has learned.

"During the past week, a delegation of the CIS Executive Committee was in Bishkek, studying the preparations for the event. We met with First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Arzybek Kojoshev of Kyrgyzstan and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Investment Nuran Niyazaliyev. We discussed the preparations for the event. All members of our delegation came to a unanimous opinion that Kyrgyzstan is ready to host the guests in a face-to-face format and signed a relevant protocol," Leonid Anfimov said. “We expect that the heads of government will accept the invitation of Kyrgyzstan (it has already been sent to the governments of the CIS countries) and visit the capital of Kyrgyzstan to meet with their colleagues in person.”

Bishkek is set to host the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government on 12 November. As for the agenda, Leonid Anfimov noted that he would not like to comment on it yet. "It's probably too early to do that. The agenda was considered at a meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives in August. Some items drew remarks,” he stressed. "Of course, all the items on the agenda are of mutual interest and are vital for ensuring the effective operation of any state that is part of the CIS."
