Kochanova: Belarus-China cooperation is on the up and up

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Belarus-China cooperation is on the up and up, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is proud of and values its friendship with China. Over the course of more than three decades, Belarus and China have made great strides in building economic, political and humanitarian contacts, they have achieved an unprecedented level of cooperation, which remains on an upward trajectory as years go by. Most of the credit for the highest level of trusting relations between our countries goes to the wise leaders of our states,” Natalya Kochanova said.

The chairperson of the Council of the Republic remarked that the two leaders meet regularly. During Aleksandr Lukashenko's recent visit to China, Xi Jinping invited the Belarusian head of state to his home for a friendly meeting. “This event drew the attention of a significant part of the international community. The meeting and its format reveal trusting nature of the relations between the leaders of Belarus and China. We are grateful to you for such a conspicuously friendly attitude. In turn, our president invited the leader of the People's Republic of China to visit his home,” she emphasized.

On 13 June, the Council of the Republic is hosting a meeting of the High-Level Committee on Cooperation between the Legislative Bodies of Belarus and China. The Chinese delegation is headed by Zhang Qingwei, co-chairman of the joint committee and Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.  Prior to the meeting of the committee, Natalya Kochanova and  Zhang Qingwei held a narrow-participation meeting.

“Last year we celebrated the 80th anniversary of the liberation of our country from the Nazi invaders, and this year - the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. And we would also like to thank you for the participation of the Chinese military in the parades in Minsk to mark these memorable dates. This added special symbolism to the Belarus-China friendship - the friendship of peoples who fought together against the brown plague of fascism and paid a high price for it. Millions of lives lost, villages destroyed and cities and villages wiped off the face of the earth,” the speaker remarked.

Natalya Kochanova believes that the participation of the leaders of Belarus, China and other heads of state and government in the ceremonial events in Moscow on 9 May demonstrated to the world the unity of the forces of goodwill, their invincibility in the face of modern challenges and threats. The chairperson of the Council of the Republic thanked Zhang Qingwei for consistent political support provided to Belarus in the international arena.

“Our countries jointly advocate for a fair world order, speak out against the use of force in international affairs, and call for joining efforts to resolve global problems. Belarus and China consistently defend each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and oppose interference in internal affairs. Belarus supports the 'One-China' principle and will never back down from this firm and conscious position. A landmark event in the history of our bilateral relations was the meeting of the leaders of Belarus and China during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in September 2022, when a joint declaration was adopted with a view to taking the bilateral relations to a new level of all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized.
