MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – A new security system in Greater Eurasia is being built on the principles of equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, Ko Ko Hlaing, Union Minister for the Ministry of the State Administration Council Chairman’s Office of Myanmar, said as he spoke at the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 31 October, BelTA has learned.
"I am confident that a new security system in Greater Eurasia is being built on the principles of equality, justice, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, the indivisibility of security and the diversity of ways of state development," the union minister said. “This will play a significant role in building a solid foundation for the multilateral security system and in finding possible ways and means for the peaceful resolution of conflicts at the regional and international levels."
In his speech, Ko Ko Hlaing touched upon the importance of achieving the progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
"When it comes to eradicating poverty, a third of the world's 75 poorest countries are in an even worse situation than they were five years ago. At the same time, 1% of the world's population owns more than 40% of global financial assets. The main problem is that a powerful group of global elites, under the guise of friendly rhetoric and concepts such as freedom, democracy, human rights, equality and humanitarian aid use their wealth, political and military power, diplomatic dominance and influence over the media and economic tools as the tools of hegemony. They have all the means to do so."
Ko Ko Hlaing noted that along with this, new forces are entering the international arena to create a counterbalance to these dominant forces. Among them is BRICS with 35% of the global GDP. "Many states are striving to become members of this group," he said.
