ASTANA, 1 September (BelTA-Kazinform) - At meeting of the Heads of State Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the Kazakh authorities consider it extremely urgent to combine the efforts of SCO countries in the fight against terrorism, separatism, and religious extremism.
“Kazakhstan fully supports the core goals of the SCO, such as the formation of a balanced multipolar world order, ensuring security and stability, non-interference in the internal affairs of states and the recognition of the right to sovereign development, as well as fair international trade and mutually beneficial investment cooperation. The organization's priority tasks are to ensure the wellbeing, security, and sustainable development of our peoples in the new technological era,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said. Firmly committed to the “fundamental principles of the SCO's statutory documents”, Kazakhstan considers it “extremely urgent” to combine efforts in the fight against terrorism, separatism, and religious extremism, he added.
The president of Kazakhstan noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is recognized by the international community as an effective, influential, and necessary international structure.
The SCO summit, held in the Chinese city of Tianjin on 31 August-1 September, is the largest in the history of the organization. It has brought together more than 30 leaders of countries and heads of international organizations.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded in Shanghai on 15 June 2001. China assumed the rotational presidency in the SCO in July 2024 following the summit in Astana.
