MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) should work together to counteract the COVID-19 pandemic. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made the statement during a videoconference session of the CIS Heads of State Council on 18 December, BelTA has learned.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that the meeting proceeded against the backdrop of many problems in economy and politics, including as a result of the unprecedented state of affairs caused by the pandemic. The Kazakhstan president believes it is important to enable broad access to antiviral vaccines in modern conditions of the fight against the coronavirus.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev mentioned Russia's leading role as the world's first country to register a COVID-19 vaccine. He also mentioned Kazakhstan's and Russia's efforts to jointly produce the vaccine. Vaccine production is supposed to begin soon.
