Incident near Belarus’ embassy in Armenia seen as act of vandalism

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) - This is unacceptable, Oleg Gaidukevich, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, commented on the recent incident near the Belarusian Embassy in Armenia.

“No one has done so much for the prosperity of the Armenian people, for peace in the Armenian land as the Belarusians. Belarus has not ignited a single conflict in the post-Soviet space. Belarus has not unleashed a single war. Belarus has always treated all nationalities with respect. A huge number of Armenians live in Belarus. They do business, trade. This act of vandalism, which was committed, is outrageous. It is unacceptable. The perpetrators should be brought to justice,” Oleg Gaidukevich said.

Belarus is a reliable friend and partner of Armenia, which does everything to ensure peace there, the MP said. “Our president has organized many meetings on all the conflict situations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, launched many peacekeeping initiatives. Has Belarus ever refused to help Armenia? Never. We will continue helping the Armenian people,” he emphasized. “Such actions are unacceptable. They harm the national interests of Armenia. One more important point: the West is not interested in Armenia's peace and tranquility. The West dreams of a conflict on the southern borders with Russia. They want to stir things up so that everything goes up in flames. They want to do this with Georgia, they want to do this with Armenia. Belarus and our president are doing everything possible to keep peace there.”

“The president always has warm feelings and high regard for the Armenian people. Taking a phrase out of context and using it so crudely for political purposes to justify these acts of vandalism is terrible and wrong. It harms not only the Armenian-Belarusian relations. It harms the unity and peace in the post-Soviet space, and it harms first of all Armenia and the Armenian people,” Oleg Gaidukevich added.
