FM: Syria seeks closer bilateral relations with Belarus

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) — Syria seeks to develop bilateral relations with Belarus, Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh said at a meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko in Minsk on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

Bassam Sabbagh thanked the head of government for the opportunity to meet and noted that Syria and Belarus enjoy friendly relations. "Last year our countries celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Our cooperation has been developing during this time and has reached a good level. We appreciate the degree of coordination and mutual support between our countries at all levels. We strive to develop our bilateral relations in furtherance of the resolutions by our leaders: Aleksandr Lukashenko and Bashar al-Assad," he said.

The minister noted that the visit of the government delegation led by Roman Golovchenko to Syria almost two years ago left a positive mark. "We are working to implement all the agreements we have reached," he added.

Bassam Sabbagh noted that Belarus and Syria face similar challenges: "This encourages us to work together to tackle them," he said.
