BREST, 22 November (BelTA) - Subversive work against Belarus has been carried out since the country gained independence, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov told the media following a joint meeting of the boards of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia in Brest on 22 November, BelTA has learned.
"The publication of some fresh data is not something new for us," the minister said. “Such subversive work has been carried out against Belarus way back than the last four years. Throughout almost the entire existence of the Belarusian state, which has independently determined its course, attempts to remove the leadership of the country, the president, have been made many times in one way or another."
"It’s just that in recent years this work has acquired openly terrorist forms," Maksim Ryzhenkov said.
"They used to groom some kinds of fighters for human rights. On the example of the events of Yugoslavia they were taught to riot in the streets, to organize some actions of social disobedience with the possible use of some improvised materials. Today they are training specifically terrorist militants, using former criminals, people without conscience or humane principles," the minister said.
He also noted: "They are really training them today in order to have a combat brigade for a negative scenario."
Maksim Ryzhenkov said: "Behind the rosy words ‘we will bring democracy to Belarus’ there are quite undemocratic mechanisms to realize certain tasks, which in the end are associated with violence, murder, harm to specific people, and ultimately, with a decrease in the standard of living and social order in our states in general."
"Everything is being done to force the Belarusian people to tow the line set by the collective West," the minister concluded.
