FM: Radical destabilization in progress to make Belarus pariah state

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – The West is implementing scenarios to destabilize the situation using radical methods and force in order to make Belarus a pariah state. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement in the Oval Hall of the House of Government on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei mentioned Western sanctions, financial support and allowance for fugitive puppets. “Various scenarios meant to destabilize the situation using radical and forceful methods are being implemented to achieve one goal – turn Belarus into a pariah state. There are multiple examples,” he stressed.

“Our embassies in a number of so-called rule-of-law states are experiencing strong pressure that goes as far as psychological and physical threats. The flag gets insulted while municipal authorities prefer not to notice it or respond with delays,” the official noted. “Here is today's case: we hear threats that go as far as setting a building on fire. The security personnel guarding the Belarusian embassy in Vilnius stated plainly they had been instructed not to respond [to such things] by the political leadership of the state and the state security department.”

Vladimir Makei mentioned insults to state symbols of Belarus, meaning insults to the feelings of the Belarusian nation. He mentioned the proposal of a Latvian MP to take the Belarusian ice hockey team as hostages as inadmissible. “It is truly the indicator of the cultural growth of Latvian politicians,” he noted.

“And however regrettable it is, our neighbor Ukraine rushes full steam ahead of the entire planet in order to earn praise from well-known benefactors. All of it cannot be described by any other terms but mockery of the neighbor, who has never been a problem and has been intent on constructive relations,” the minister of foreign affairs continued. “The law of the jungle is actually in place. Such an approach is absolutely unacceptable not only from the point of view of international law but from the point of view of basic morality.”

“Although it may be good that some have shown their true face,” Vladimir Makei concluded.
