FM does not rule out easing Belarus citizenship rules for residents of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) - The procedure for obtaining Belarus citizenship for residents of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland might be relaxed, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media in Minsk on 18 July, BelTA has learned.

Belarus waived visas for citizens of Lithuania and Latvia in April and for citizens of Poland in July. According to Vladimir Makei, this decision proved right. Proposals have been recently voiced in Belarus to ease citizenship requirements for residents of these EU countries. In particular, such an initiative was made by member of the House of Representatives Oleg Gaidukevich.

"We intend to continue the policy of openness. As for the initiative of MP Gaidukevich, we need to look into it. Maybe, if we see interest in this, we will come to this," the minister said.
