FM comments on Belarus-China strategic partnership

MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) - Belarus’ all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership with China has received a serious political and economic impetus primarily thanks to contacts at the highest level, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said in his lecture during an event at the Palace of the Republic on 2 September to mark Knowledge Day and the start of the new academic year at the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The minister of foreign affairs stressed that Beijing's initiatives have long gone beyond the region to become global in nature, and China is one of the few countries that has been able to take maximum advantage of globalization processes. For example, to implement its Belt and Road initiative, Beijing has signed cooperation documents with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations.

“Belarus is one of the first countries to have joined the initiative, being its strong supporter and active participant. We gain a lot from this cooperation and the implementation of joint projects,” the minister said.

To scale the importance of cooperation with China, the minister cited the following example: in 2023 Belarusian companies sent more than 1,500 container trains to China, which is 50% more than in 2022.

“We will also be building into other large-scale projects to promote the national interests,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said.
