FM: Belarus views UN as indispensable platform for promoting peace

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – On 25 February, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Maksim Ryzhenkov took part in a meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his speech, the minister emphasized the importance of the mission of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter, which is to uphold the norms and principles of the UN that are grossly and systematically violated by a group of Western countries through threats and blackmail.

The visit of the Belarusian foreign minister to the Middle East showed that many problems could have been resolved had all participants in international relations observed their commitments under the UN Charter.

The Belarusian foreign minister reaffirmed the value of the UN as an indispensable platform for promoting peace, sustainable development and human rights.

Later that day, Maksim Ryzhenkov had a constructive conversation with Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Tatiana Valovaya, who is also Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament.

Maksim Ryzhenkov told Tatiana Valovaya about the priorities of the Belarusian presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union in 2025. They discussed the role and place of the EAEU on international arena, primarily in the UN, and outlined a number of joint steps in this direction.

Speaking about security and disarmament, the foreign minister confirmed Belarus' fundamental interest in resuming an inclusive and meaningful global dialogue.

The Belarusian foreign minister  presented the Belarusian initiative to develop the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century to Tatiana Valovaya. This initiative was upheld by the Russian Federation and is open to all countries of the continent. Maksim Ryzhenkov emphasized its potential to ensure unified and indivisible security for all.

At a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Yván Gil Pinto, the Belarusian foreign minister discussed Belarus-Venezuela interaction in international organizations.

Maksim Ryzhenkov also met with Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Paul Richard Gallagher to discuss bilateral cooperation.
