MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Belarus admires India's rapid development, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Lukashevich said at a ceremony on 27 January to mark the Republic Day of India, BelTA has learned.

The Constitution of India was adopted on 26 November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950.

“On behalf of the leadership of the Republic of Belarus and on my own behalf, let me express my most sincere congratulations to our Indian friends and partners on the occasion of the country's national holiday. Belarus admires India's rapid development. Thus, over the past 10 years, the Indian economy has advanced from 11th to 5th place in the world. I am convinced that this is not the limit,” emphasized Sergei Lukashevich.

He expressed confidence that the Republic of India managed to achieve such results thanks to the hard work of its people and the smart policy of its government.

“Against the backdrop of the global political and economic upheavals of recent years, Belarus and India continue to consistently strengthen friendly relations based on mutual support and respect. The past year saw many events that played a significant role in Belarus-India cooperation. In 2024 the Republic of Belarus was granted membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and a partner status in BRICS. This became possible thanks to the active support of India,” the diplomat said.

He went on saying: “Other significant events for our relations included the participation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the Voice of the Global South Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, as well as the official visit of the Belarusian foreign minister to India and the meeting of the heads of parliaments of our countries. I believe that these and many other joint events highlight the colossal cooperation potential in all areas in Belarus-India relations.”
