Expert: Coordination of cooperation in CSTO should enter a new level

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - The coordination of cooperation between the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) should reach a new level, deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics of Moscow State University (Russia) Vladimir Shapovalov said in an interview to Belarus 1 channel, BelTA has learned.

“The actions of the West in Ukraine are extremely dangerous for all the countries of the Eurasian space. Since this is a military conflict, which is taking place on the territory of the Eurasian space, it threatens the countries of the CSTO. This situation of destabilization and military threats has economic and migration consequences. We should also pay attention to the fact that the NATO military presence directly on the CSTO borders is increasing,” said Vladimir Shapovalov.

According to him, the coordination of cooperation between the CSTO countries should reach a new level. “I support the opinion of the Belarusian president and believe that the Collective Security Treaty Organization should be active and decisive, and the coordination of interaction between the countries on the political and diplomatic track should reach a new level, because the world has entered a state of high turbulence. This requires new tools and new methods from the countries to defend their interests, sovereignty, and to support their allies,” the deputy director said.
