MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) - The documents to register an initiative group in support of the nomination of Aleksandr Lukashenko as a presidential candidate have been submitted to the Central Election Commission of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
The head of the initiative group is Yuri Senko (chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus).
"Today we submitted to the CEC an application and all the documents required to register an initiative group in support of the nomination of Aleksandr Lukashenko as a presidential candidate," Yuri Senko said. “After registration, the initiative group will start collecting signatures in support of the nomination of Aleksandr Lukashenko as a presidential candidate."
In accordance with the law, the initiative group to nominate presidential candidates must include at least 100 people. "Our group is much larger, so we will work in all regions of the country, in the places designated by local authorities for signature collection and also in labor collectives (time limits have been set by law). All possible forms for collecting signatures will be used," the head of the initiative group emphasized.
The initiative group of citizens to collect voters' signatures in support of the nomination of Aleksandr Lukashenko as a candidate for the presidency in the Republic of Belarus was the first to submit the documents to the CEC. “We were ready for this step. We worked very actively with our specialists who joined the initiative group. I am very glad that a large number of activists joined this work. And we are ready to fulfill the tasks,” Yuri Senko said. “A presidential candidate gathers their initiative group, choosing the specialists they trust. I am very pleased that the choice fell on me. I accepted the offer with great pleasure. I have a notarized power of attorney to this effect. As a lawyer, I am convinced that I will cope with this task and prepare a team that will work with me to collect signatures in support of our candidate. We are not engaged in any campaigning. The work of Aleksandr Lukashenko speaks for itself. I am convinced that our people, the population of Belarus will make a smart, correct, good and reliable choice.”
Presidential election in Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
